ASE → OPFPrivate Jet Route

Private Jet from Aspen (ASE) to Miami (OPF)

Aspen-Pitkin County Airport is the gateway to the Roaring Fork Valley — ten minutes by car from the gondola at Aspen Mountain and the front desks of the Little Nell and the St. Regis. It is also one of the most operationally demanding fields in the United States, sitting at 7,820 feet of elevation with a single 8,006-foot runway hemmed in by terrain. For clients heading from the slopes to South Florida, Aero Benny coordinates the charter through trusted operator partners and handles every ground detail at Miami-Opa Locka Executive (OPF): hotel and condo arrivals, yacht charters, restaurant reservations, and Art Basel logistics in December.

01 — Why this routeWhy this route

Why Aspen and Miami are a natural pair

The Aspen-to-Miami corridor is one of the most established winter migrations in U.S. private aviation. Aspen's ski season runs late November through early April, overlapping precisely with Miami's high season — Art Basel and Design Miami in early December, the Miami International Boat Show in February, and the broader snowbird calendar that fills Faena, the Setai, and the Four Seasons Surf Club from December through March. Many clients we coordinate for keep residences or memberships at both ends and move between them every few weeks. The route is also common in summer, when Aspen's music festival and the Food & Wine Classic draw Miami-based travelers in the opposite direction.

02 — ArrivalArrival

Arrival at Opa-Locka Executive (OPF / KOPF)

Opa-Locka Executive Airport — IATA code OPF, ICAO code KOPF — is Miami's primary private-aviation field, sitting about 25 minutes by car from South Beach and roughly the same to Brickell, depending on traffic on the 95 and the MacArthur Causeway. Its 8,002-foot runway accommodates everything up to ultra-long-range heavy jets without restriction. Signature Flight Support, Atlantic Aviation, and Fontainebleau Aviation operate FBOs on the field. Aero Benny coordinates FBO ramp arrival, customs is not required for domestic legs, and chauffeured ground transport to hotels on Collins Avenue, Brickell, or Coral Gables — typically a black SUV or Sprinter for parties traveling with ski equipment and significant luggage.

03 — AircraftAircraft

Recommended aircraft for the ASE OPF route

At roughly 1,620 nautical miles, the corridor sits within the range of midsize, super-midsize, and heavy jets, but Aspen's altitude shapes the conversation. KASE sits at 7,820 feet, and summer density-altitude effects combined with the surrounding terrain mean most operators plan payload conservatively — heavy jets such as the Gulfstream G450, Falcon 7X, or Global 5000 can fly the route, but may carry reduced fuel or passenger loads out of Aspen and tanker the difference at a lower-altitude departure on the return. Super-midsize aircraft such as the Challenger 350 or Citation Sovereign+ are often the most efficient choice. Aircraft selection is confirmed with the operator at the time of quote.

04 — ConciergeConcierge

What we coordinate on the ground

Miami arrivals are about the first night, not the airport. Standard coordination includes meet-and-greet at the OPF FBO, chauffeured SUV or Sprinter transfer to Faena, the Setai, the Edition Miami Beach, the Four Seasons Surf Club, or a private residence in Brickell or Star Island. Dinner reservations at Carbone, Cote, Le Bilboquet, Casadonna, or Stubborn Seed are arranged in advance — these tables are notoriously difficult during Art Basel and the boat show. Day yacht charters depart from Miami Beach Marina, and we coordinate Art Basel access, gallery walkthroughs, and Design District itineraries each December for clients flying in for the fair.

05 — FAQFrequently asked

Aspen Miami

How long is the flight from Aspen to Miami?
Approximately 3 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours 15 minutes depending on aircraft type, payload, and winter winds aloft. Heavy and super-midsize jets typically fly the lower end of that range.
Are there weight or weather restrictions out of Aspen?
Yes. KASE is a high-altitude single-runway field with terrain on multiple sides. Most operators plan payload conservatively, particularly in summer when density altitude reduces performance margins. Aspen also operates under a daytime curfew — generally 7am to 11pm — and winter storms can divert arrivals to Eagle (EGE) or Grand Junction (GJT). We confirm departure windows and weather contingencies with the operator before booking.
Are there alternate Miami airports we could use?
Yes. Opa-Locka (OPF) is the primary private-aviation field, but Tamiami / Miami Executive (TMB) is a viable alternate south of the city, and Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE) serves clients heading to Fort Lauderdale or northern Miami-Dade. Miami International (MIA) accepts private traffic but is generally avoided due to commercial congestion and longer ramp times. We will recommend the field that best fits the operator's positioning and your final ground destination.
Does Aero Benny operate aircraft for this route?
No. Aero Benny is a 14 CFR Part 295 charter broker. We coordinate the request and concierge logistics. All flights are operated by third-party FAA-certificated air carriers. Aircraft availability, pricing, and routing are subject to operator confirmation.
How far in advance should we book during Art Basel or ski season?
For Art Basel week in early December, the Presidents' Day weekend in February, and the days bracketing Christmas and New Year, we recommend confirming at least four to six weeks in advance. Aspen-area slots and Miami FBO ramp space tighten significantly during these windows. Shorter-notice requests are often workable but the operator and aircraft choice may be more constrained.
