SFO → SJDPrivate Jet Route

Private Jet from San Francisco (SFO) to Cabo San Lucas (SJD)

San Francisco International is the Bay Area's anchor field for private aviation departing south to Mexico — convenient to San Francisco itself, the Peninsula, and the Marin / North Bay catchment, and home to private terminals operated by Signature Flight Support and Million Air. It is the natural departure point for Bay Area clients flying privately to the Los Cabos resort corridor. Aero Benny coordinates the charter through trusted operator partners and orchestrates every detail of the arrival at Los Cabos International Airport (SJD): Mexican customs and immigration handling, SUV transfers along the corridor, resort check-in at Esperanza, Las Ventanas al Paraíso or One&Only Palmilla, sportfishing, golf and yacht charters out of Cabo Marina.

01 — Why this routeWhy this route

Why San Francisco anchors the Bay Area Cabo route

San Francisco International (SFO / KSFO) is the Bay Area field most clients name when departing for Los Cabos, with general aviation handled through Signature Flight Support and Million Air on the west side of the airfield. The runway lengths, customs presence, and operator familiarity make it a straightforward outbound for a Mexico trip. For South Bay clients, San Jose Mineta (SJC / KSJC) is often closer to home and offers a quieter FBO experience; for East Bay and Marin clients, Oakland International (OAK / KOAK) and Hayward Executive (HWD / KHWD) are well-served by charter operators. We are happy to position the aircraft at whichever field shortens your ground time — the routing and customs plan are confirmed with the operator at quote.

02 — ArrivalArrival

Arrival at Los Cabos International (SJD / MMSD)

Los Cabos International Airport — IATA code SJD, ICAO code MMSD — is the gateway to the Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo resort corridor. Its 9,843-foot runway at 374 feet elevation accommodates aircraft up to heavy jets without restriction, and the general aviation apron is served by handlers including Jet Aviation Los Cabos and Universal Aviation Mexico. Mexican Customs, Immigration and Agriculture (CIQ) clearance on arrival is routine for charter operators, who file APIS data and coordinate the inspection in advance with the FBO. From the gate, SUV transfers along the corridor reach the Pedregal in Cabo San Lucas, the Tourist Corridor resorts, and San José del Cabo in roughly 30 minutes.

03 — AircraftAircraft

Recommended aircraft for the SFO SJD route

At roughly 1,255 nautical miles, the SFO–Los Cabos corridor sits in the practical sweet spot for midsize jets. Midsize aircraft such as the Cessna Citation XLS+, Hawker 900XP, or Embraer Praetor 500 will complete the trip in around three hours with a stand-up cabin and enclosed lavatory, and are typically the most cost-effective option for parties of four to seven. Super-midsize aircraft such as the Bombardier Challenger 350 or Cessna Citation Longitude add cabin space and a slightly faster cruise. Heavy aircraft such as the Gulfstream G450 or Bombardier Challenger 605 are worth the step up for larger parties, summer payload margin out of SFO, or clients prioritizing maximum cabin comfort. The aircraft is confirmed with the operator at the time of quote.

What we coordinate on the ground

Cabo's resort corridor is what makes this trip — and the right arrival experience makes it land. Standard coordination includes meet-and-greet at the SJD FBO, CIQ assistance, and chauffeured SUV transfer along the corridor. We arrange resort check-in at Esperanza, Las Ventanas al Paraíso, One&Only Palmilla, Waldorf Astoria Pedregal or Solaz, and book tee times at Diamante, Quivira, Cabo del Sol or El Dorado. Optional add-ons include day yacht and sportfishing charters out of Cabo Marina — Bisbee's Black & Blue week in October is a common request — private chefs in-villa, dinner reservations at Flora Farms or El Farallón, and full driver and security coordination for the duration of the stay.

05 — FAQFrequently asked

San Francisco Cabo San Lucas

How long is the flight from San Francisco to Cabo San Lucas?
Approximately 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes depending on aircraft type, payload, and winds. Super-midsize and heavy aircraft tend to be toward the lower end of that range; midsize aircraft toward the upper end.
Can we depart from San Jose (SJC) or Oakland (OAK) instead of SFO?
Yes. SJC is often the better field for South Bay and Silicon Valley clients; OAK or Hayward (HWD) for East Bay and parts of Marin. Charter operators serve all four fields and we will position the aircraft wherever it shortens your ground time. The customs and routing plan is the same — only the departure FBO changes.
What happens with Mexican customs and immigration on arrival at SJD?
Mexican CIQ clearance on arrival at Los Cabos is routine for charter operators. The operator files APIS passenger data in advance, the FBO coordinates the inspection on the ramp or at the GA terminal, and the meet-and-greet team escorts your party through. Plan on roughly 20 to 30 minutes from block-in to vehicle, sometimes less.
Does Aero Benny operate aircraft for this route?
No. Aero Benny is a 14 CFR Part 295 charter broker. We coordinate the request and concierge logistics; all flights are operated by properly licensed third-party FAA-certificated air carriers and their Mexican-authorized counterparts. Aircraft availability, pricing, and routing are subject to operator confirmation.
How far in advance should we book a trip to Cabo?
For peak season (Thanksgiving through Easter, the October Bisbee's tournament, and major U.S. holidays), two to four weeks of lead time gives the widest aircraft choice. Off-peak, the same route is often workable on a few days' notice. We can quote in either window and will be candid about what is realistically available.
